The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

In 2017 SLOW was the proud recipient of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service after being nominated by the former Mayor of Islington, Kat Fletcher.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK and equivalent to a MBE.

The award was created by the Queen in 2002 to recognise the outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups of volunteers.

Who we are

SLOW was founded by Nic Whitworth and Susie Hanson and is run today by Kelly Carter and Nikki Peterson, with an expert team facilitators and a large group of volunteers. Many of our team are bereaved parents or siblings and have received support from the charity in the past.
