Please support our amazing Royal Parks Half Marathon Team!

Please support our amazing Royal Parks Half Marathon Team!

After being postponed twice due to COVID, the Royal Parks Half Marathon is finally going ahead this weekend and we have an amazing team of 12, running and fundraising for SLOW.

Many are running in memory of beautiful children all lost far too soon.

There’s Julia running for Nola,

Adrian running and remembering Henry,

Felicity running in memory of Maude,

James running in memory of his niece Nina,

and Mark running in memory of his son Ed.

The parents of these children have found support at SLOW, keeping their child’s memory alive and sharing their grief with others who understand the devastating pain of losing a child. With this fundraising we hope to support even more bereaved parents and siblings in the UK over the coming year.

It’s been a difficult time for fundraising with the pandemic so we are overjoyed with what this amazing team have raised so far but there’s still time to donate if you can spare a few pennies – we’d be truly grateful!

Good luck to all the runners on Sunday – we can’t thank you enough team!

Shout out to our amazingly generous funders

Shout out to our amazingly generous funders

It’s a difficult time out there for small charities like SLOW and today we give thanks to our generous and flexible funders.

When the pandemic hit, our grant and trust partners (new and existing) stepped up and we’ve received over £60,000 in the space of six months.

Our funders recognise the importance of our bereavement support services – a lifeline to many – and the creative ways in which we continue to support bereaved parents even during lockdown.

So big thank yous to:

  • The Lotteries – Reaching Communities
  • The Coronavirus Community Support Fund (HM Government and the Lotteries)
  • The London Community Response Fund
  • The John Armitage Charitable Trust
  • The CAF Emergency Fund
  • Islington Council Community Chest
  • Local Initiatives Fund (Islington Council)
  • Waitrose Community Matters

We are overwhelmed with gratitude and truly thankful for their support during this difficult time.

The 2.6 Challenge – please raise funds for SLOW!

The 2.6 Challenge – please raise funds for SLOW!

Like many small charities, SLOW has been impacted by the cancellation of fundraising events due to Covid-19.  In response, we’re joining the 2.6 challenge and hoping that our members and their family and friends can join us in raising funds for SLOW with their inspiring events from this weekend.

The 2.6 challenge has been set up by the London Marathon organisers as the race (also 26ish miles) is not going ahead this Sunday – the 26th April.

We’d love you to fundraise for SLOW by creating a personal challenge based around the figures 2.6 or 26.

So, you could do 26 cartwheels, 26 laps of your garden, a 2.6 mile / km run or walk, 26 minute of yoga or pogo’ing, or just run up and down your street 26 times!

Be creative the challenges are endless!   It’s open to anyone of any age, sibs included, and the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government’s guidelines on exercising and social distancing.

You can either set up a fundraising page, or simply make a one-off donation for your challenge via this link.

Thank you so much everyone – your fundraising efforts will be truly appreciated!
