Our adult sibling support group, SLOWsibs 18+, is Our adult sibling support group, SLOWsibs 18+, is having its first gathering in London on Saturday 9th July 2022 from 11.30am till 3pm. Siblings are meeting informally in a pub in Kings Cross and our lovely bereaved sibling facilitators, Shushma Jain and Michael Ward, will be there to welcome you. On Saturday we celebrated our 15th Anniversary wit On Saturday we celebrated our 15th Anniversary with an afternoon tea at the Ecology Centre, Islington with SLOW past and present members, volunteers, trustees and staff. It was a chance to say a massive thank you to our volunteers and trustees who help SLOW in so many ways. We are looking for bereaved parents to set up and facilitate our weekly bereaved support groups in London and virtually across the UK. These are paid roles. Essential experience is that you are a bereaved parent of at least three years - it’s what’s unique about SLOW, anyone that works at SLOW or facilitates is a bereaved parent or sibling - we’ve been there and we understand the pain when a child dies in the family. Today is #nationaldayofreflection it is a way for Today is #nationaldayofreflection it is a way for us, as a nation, to come together and acknowledge those who have died. With compassion and love, we can show those who are grieving that they are not alone. Today shines a huge light on grief and bereavement. For those in the middle of grief, we feel our grief everyday. We still don’t openly grieve as a society, lots of people don’t know how to and lots of people don’t know how to support those who are grieving. Today provides an opportunity to openly discuss grief, for anyone that knows someone who is bereaved, please support them, please check in on them, pleased don’t avoid them. You won’t upset them by saying the person’s name who has died, they’ll be thankful that you’ve remembered and that you care. Practical support is also very well received as well as emotional support. Make a meal, make a cup of tea. Do something instead of nothing for fear of upsetting or saying the wrong thing. Let’s use today to try and normalise grief a bit more. For any bereaved parents or siblings looking for support, our groups are available both in person and virtually. Please check our calendar on our website to find days and times. Yesterday we ran our first in person SLOWsibs work Yesterday we ran our first in person SLOWsibs workshop for the first time in a year. It was such a pleasure to work with the children who were there to remember their brothers and sisters who have died. We worked with clay and all sorts of treasures were made in commemoration. Mariama was remembering her brother Ishmael. Casper was remembering his sister Cora and his brother Larkin. Victor was remembering his brother Martin. And Tiger was remembering her sister Rosie. As well as using clay, the kids had a great game of football in the garden.
