The grief facing Charlie Gard’s parents
It’s hard to imagine that anyone caught up in the maelstrom of the media from a personal tragedy still has to go through a long, hard grieving process. The extra pressures the attention brings to the situation are bad enough.
This excellent article in Newsweek by Jessica Firger looks at grief in relation to Connie Yates and Chris Gard’s loss and wider. She talks to Dr. Joanne Cacciatore, a grief counsellor and professor of psychology at Arizona State University who also lost a daughter at birth. It looks at the process of grief, the time and the natural responses we have to grief and also how those around can better understand and support.
